Hi, my name is Gracyelle!
I am a professor of the Social Policy Department (DPSS-ESS) at Universidade Federal Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in Brazil. In 2023 I was a visiting scholar at the Afro-Latin American Research Institute at the Hutchins Center at Harvard University to develop my research and scholarship at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo.
In 2021 I received an award called Premio Capes Tese for the best doctoral dissertation of Brazil in my field, Social Work. The dissertation is entitled Race, Nation, and the Origins of the Social Welfare Policy in Brazil. This dissertation has been downloaded over three thousand times from the university’s official website and Academia.Edu
My B.A, M.A, and Ph.D are in Social Work. I got y Ph.D in Social Work, focus on Social Policy, at Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). During my PhD. I was a visiting scholar at the University of Texas at Austin under the supervision of Professor Marcelo Paixão.
As a professor at Universidade Federal Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in Brazil, I coordinated the work group that founded in 2022 the Núcleo de Estudos Afro-Brasileiros e Indígenas – Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous Studies Center.
Now I am working on a book manuscript focusing on Eugenics and Social Welfare Policies in Brazil in the early 20th Century.
